I graduated from the Massage Therapy program! My graduation was Friday, July 6. As a class, we created a lovely program to honor our teachers and ourselves. It is amazing what a few special women can do to create a touching experience. The event was held at Kathy (a student) and Tony Guiles' home. The Scherer Institute instructors and staff contributed with songs, traditions, and words of wisdom. I have posted pictures (album called Graduation) so you can see a bit of the event.
School was very busy during the last weeks, heck the last few months, actually. We packed a lot of learning into 6 months. Although I have spent the past 2 days catching up with myself by resting, I already miss the school experience. I posted photos from the last week of school.
Although I have told many people in my network, I am sorry that I haven’t gotten to announce the biggest bit of news to everyone. I have decided to stay in Santa Fe for now. I resigned from PKC and am taking my chances as I find my niche in the massage therapy world in Northern New Mexico. The practical part of me isn’t sure whether I can make it as a fulltime massage therapist, at least right away, so I will find other work as well.
Since I miss all of you back home, I am coming to visit and I can’t wait to see all of you in Vermont. I’ll be there August 9 until the 21. Please mark your calendar for August 19 at 5:00 PM! Come see me… I would like to have a party/gathering at Oakledge Park, at the Treehouse… a picnic-style potluck.
So, “what’s next?” you might ask. I have some good leads for my future but nothing concrete has been established. Basically, I would like to work at a spa and maintain a private practice as well. I have irons in the fire for both of those options. Some of my future endeavors may lead to research in massage, but only time will tell if this comes to be. I will be doing massage for "free" until my liscense is processed by the state of New Mexico. So, I am finding work through a temp agency in the meantime --- oh if this doesn't remind me of an earler time in my employment history! --- all for the greater good I keep telling myself. I’ll update the blog as more of my experience unfolds.
I have struck another bit of good fortune. Currently, I am living rent/mortgage free in the horse community of Santa Fe -- Arroyo Hondo. I am house-sitting for a family over the next 5 weeks. Maddie and I are taking good care of their lovely home with 10 acres of privacy, an outdoor hottub, and views of the mountains surrounding. My only job is to take care of the plants and occupy the house. My bedroom is a sun room; the sunshine wakes me up each morning. From the rooftop of the house, I watch the sun setting and the lightning dance across the skies. I just moved in a few days ago, and it is a peaceful place to make my transition from school, ending my experience at PKC, and finding my next bit of work. I posted pictures of this too.
Thank you all -- for your support during my journey. It has been nice to know that my friends and family have been wishing me well and interested in my story. I can report that the risk to invest in myself and follow my gut and my heart has been a blessing. At the end of an intense program, I still have a lot of enthusiasm for massage work.
